“Krzysia Górniak is the most recognizable guitarist in Poland. For many years, jazz music has been her passion. This talented artist recently recorded her new studio album “Emotions”. It is a musical image full of bright colors in an extremely subtle form. Of course, the new album is not devoid of energy, it also contains many positive vibrations and harmonies that are pleasant to the ear. Krzysia Górniak, a jazz musician through and through, has provided the listeners with an interesting stylistic mix, so “Emotions” is filled with groove, funky, soul and pop sounds. This unconventional album will certainly win the hearts of jazz lovers, but I think not only. The work of the rhythm section and the piano, which give the compositions space, is also worth noting. Zdzisław Kalinowski (piano), Michał Grott (bass guitar) and Przemek Knopik (drums) were responsible for these treatments. The refined artistry of playing can be heard in almost every song. The sounds are quite diverse – from very standard, typically jazz notes played on a guitar with muted tones, to quite strong sounds on overdrives more in the style of fusion. Polish jazz is catching up in the field of light jazz to listen to at any occasion. Guitarist Krzysia Górniak has felt great in such climates since the beginning of her career. I remember how in 2000 she preceded James Carter’s performance at the New Town Square as part of the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days. At that time, she was a graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw and a student at the University of Music in Graz. And above all, she played the electric guitar captivatingly. She could pluck the strings almost as softly as Larry Carlton and as melodiously as George Benson.
Today, Krzysia Górniak is a guitarist of European renown, and she also composes interestingly. Her third album has just been released, the most interesting one, if we judge the sound and improvisations. “Emotions” is about emotions: “love, happiness, anger, friendship”, as the author herself writes. Her music easily blends into the background of our daily affairs, you can listen to it at any time and enjoy the sound of the guitar.
